Today you are going to know – What is Gestational Diabetes?
Gestational diabetes is particularly common in women during pregnancy. Because at this time, blood sugar levels have increased significantly in their entire body which usually ends after a child delivery. But you do not think that in the future reoccurrence of it has been completely ended, the reality is -The chances of its being increased greatly.
Because it is a disease which has a great potential in the future to have this.
If it is not controlled at the right time, your children may also be diabetic.
That is why the ADA (American Diabetes Association) has clearly stated on its website that doctors should make regular check-ups of gestational diabetes of every pregnant woman.
Because most of the pregnant women do not recognize the symptoms of the disease until they are screened.
That’s why during pregnancy, every woman should check-up full body.
I have already told you that most of the women do not know its symptoms. So this does not mean that you should not know the symptoms, you must know so that you can avoid such a dangerous disease.
That’s why first you know its symptoms –
Gestational diabetes signs –
- Too much thirst,
- frequent urination,
- Dry mouth,
- Itching etc.
What is the reason for having Gestational Diabetes?
So far, no definitive proof has been found about how does this happen?
Risk factors for having gestational diabetes –
- If any of your family members already had Type 1 diabetes or Type 2 diabetes or at present then the chances of getting you increases.
- Even if there is prediabetes in family history, the chances of having Gestational Diabetes increases.
- If your weight is higher than the average of your body’s height and weight, that is if you are overweight then risk increases.
- Being a patient of blood pressure.
- If there is already gestational diabetes in your family member, then the chances of getting you increased greatly.
- If you are Asian, African, Native American then your risk increases.
- If you keep in touch with all of the above-mentioned reasons then your risk factors will increase.
Extra tips – Normally there is no immediate sign of gestational diabetes unless it is tested. That is why most doctors first check pregnant women to test Gestational Diabetes so that they can confirm how treatments should go by.
If you are pregnant, then test it first, otherwise, the chance of having type 2 diabetes increases significantly in the coming time which is very dangerous with Gestational diabetes.
If you feel hungry again and again, you get thirsty again and if you have urine, again and again, you should definitely test it.
So now you should what and how to go for it.
For this, you have to do a screening test called OGTT (Oral Glucose tolerance test) which is considered the best method for diagnosis. Because your blood is taken 3 to 4 times the sample.
You do not have to eat anything from the night before the test done (you can drink water but with the advice of the doctor) i.e. this test goes by an empty stomach.
According to the doctor recommendations the next day you are given glucose. After that, your blood sugar level is measured again and it is seen how your blood deals with your body.
This is usually a test done between 24 to 28 weeks of being pregnant.
I just want to tell you here that this can be controlled to a great extent just by good diet and regular exercise.
My opinion –
